President Barack Obama made history last year by becoming the first US president to be on the cover of a gay magazine — it was Out.
Now, the Duke of Cambridge, aka Prince William of England, has made a similar statement, becoming the first royal to grace the cover of a gay magazine, Attitude.
Last month, Prince William invited the LGBT community to Kensington Palace to listen to their stories. The future monarch listened to their testimonies of facing discrimination, and “discuss the mental health implications it has,”Attitude magazine reports.
“No one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason,” William said, “and no one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives.”
Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton also visited the U.S. Embassy in London to write a message to the the Orlando victims who lost their lives in the devastating mass shooting.
The message read: “With our condolences and with our thoughts and prayers to all those affected.”
Whether or not you’re a fan of the royals, Prince William coming out as an ally to entire LGBTQ community is exactly the kind of support we need after a painful tragedy.
